This badge is awarded to learners who have demonstrated the ability to use data collection technologies such as ESRI’s Field Maps, Survey123, drone-based data collection, etc., as it relates to GIS. This course will provide the fundamentals and explore pathways to earning certifications for drone operations and becoming a GIS professional (GISP).

Essential Employability Skills

Mandated by the Government of Ontario. All graduates with the following Ontario College credentials, Ontario College Certificate, Ontario College Diploma and Ontario College Advanced Diploma, must be able to reliably demonstrate the Essential Employability Skills required in each of the following six categories: Communication, Numeracy, Critical thinking & problem solving, Information management, Interpersonal and Personal.

Criteria

The recipient of this micro-credential has demonstrated the ability to:

  • Assess different types of open source and commercial data collection tools and technology.
  • Set up account and use open and citizen science data collection platform for data collection
  • Identify form-based vs map-based data collection platforms
  • Use ESRI based solutions (Field map, survey123 etc.) to help meet organizational data collection needs
  • Document how to plan for GPS and RTK based data collection
  • Create, edit and visualize collected data in a form that allows for presentation.
  • Access, manipulate and apply drone-based data to create products.
  • Document processes and procedures regarding to get certification in drone operations (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology) and GISP certification.
  • Convert ideas into solution, related to data collection tools and platforms
  • Present the solution with a demo in front of the class (an audience)

By providing:

A final assignment in which students will:

Work on a hands-on project that will require a data collection solution to a GIS problem and then present their findings to an audience.

And by reflecting on the entire process by:

Completing a reflective essay with prompting options from the instructor.
