This badge is awarded to learners who have earned the Junior Production Sound Assistant micro-credential. The Junior Production Sound Assistant provides support to the Production Sound Mixer and the Principal Boom Operator and is responsible for helping to ensure an efficient on set audio experience as well as keeping detailed documentation as required.

Essential Employability Skills

Mandated by the Government of Ontario. All graduates with the following Ontario College credentials, Ontario College Certificate, Ontario College Diploma and Ontario College Advanced Diploma, must be able to reliably demonstrate the Essential Employability Skills required in each of the following six categories: Communication, Numeracy, Critical thinking & problem solving, Information management, Interpersonal and Personal.

Criteria

The recipient of this micro-credential has demonstrated the ability to:

Prepare, implement and complete a field or studio recording.

  • Apply the fundamental properties of sound
  • Communicate using correct audio terminology based on the roles and responsibilities in a production environment
  • Demonstrate proper handling and storage of audio cables
  • Demonstrate proper handling and operation of microphones and accessories
  • Select the correct microphone based on types, properties and applications
  • Use the procedures for microphone and equipment hygiene
  • Demonstrate safe setup and operation of audio equipment in a production environment
  • Demonstrate the use of a Field Audio recorder

Copy, store, backup, rename and move digital audio files.

  • Provide a detailed note-taking process.
  • Demonstrate the output and transfer of audio files.
  • Demonstrate file management and naming procedures.

By providing:

  • Evidence of the ability to be given a scenario in which they must choose the correct microphones and properly setup the audio equipment. They will then need to complete an audio recording that demonstrates correct microphone placement and levels as well as complete a sound report. Finally, they will need to transfer the audio files as directed.

And by reflecting on the entire process by:

Keeping and Writing a reflective journal, being given ongoing prompts and having the format be at the learner's choice (eg. written, video, blog, vlog)
