The Junior Assistant Digital Media Technician provides support to the production Data Management team, which is overseen by the production camera department. This role is responsible for many tasks including: safely securing master video and audio files, transforming video into the appropriate colour space for onset monitoring, and preparing media for offline editorial.
Criteria
The recipient of this micro-credential has demonstrated the ability to:
- Download, backup, and transfer data utilizing industry standard workflows and software, including checksums for data integrity.
- Prepare video footage to be viewed correctly onset via colorspace transformations.
- Synchronize video and audio materials utilizing timecode and a slate clap.
- Prepare footage for Editorial departments.
- Apply an appropriate LUT or colourspace transformation to map RAW and/or logarithmic footage to an appropriate display type.
- Perform basic “one-light” colour correction, including white balancing a shot.
- Populate required metadata fields in preparation for Avid Editorial departments.
- Sync dual system audio and video.
- Identify if footage is RAW, logarithmic, or in Rec709 colourspaces, using the Media and Color pages within DaVinci Resolve software.
By providing:
A final project in which students will be provided with sample production footage and soundrolls on a USB flash drive. Students will execute the following tasks which simulates a typical workload of a Digital Media Technician. The student will organize, copy, sychronize audio and video files and then prepare populate meta-data fields to ensure an appropriate handoff between departments and save the final task as a DaVinci Resolve project file.
